September 16-22 marks another National Farm Safety and Health Week! This year has the theme: “Cultivating the Seeds of Safety.”

Farm safety and health is extremely important throughout the year for our farmers. This week as they continue harvesting the fields, let’s keep these safety tips in mind:

Sharing the road. Farm equipment is not as small as it used to be and can take a portion of the road. Most farmers will try to allow you to pass but remember sometimes they simply cannot.

Make sure farm equipment has a slow moving vehicle sign and make sure it is in a place it will be seen. If it has a trailer or wagon behind it, make sure the sign is still visible or the equipment has a sign as well.

A slow moving vehicle sign protects both the driver and the vehicles travelling behind, as it allows them to be noticed sooner. Always realize the sign lets you know the machinery is going slower than the normal speed of traffic.
